The best teeth whitening alternative to a dentist is an at home whitening kit.  Typically, these kits will come with everything you need to do this process gradually.  It will come with mouth trays and contain doses of whitening gel, or peroxide, that you will inject into the mouth tray and wear the tray over your teeth for a period of time.  That time can range anywhere from fifteen minutes to over night.  Most kits wills either tell you to wear the trays for about two or three hours, or simply wear the trays overnight.  The doses of peroxide are relatively low doses, so you might be doing this for a period of two weeks.

After the kits, the next best teeth whitening system are the strips.  Many people prefer the strips because they are something that you can wear during the day without people noticing.  They are typically clear strips that you can wear on your teeth for a period of about thirty minutes.  Another added benefit is that they are disposal and you do not have to deal with messy trays and gels.  Depending on which brand you use, some of the strips will also contain a desensitizer to reduce the sensitivity in your teeth and also some enamel to protect your teeth.

Once again, depending on your own comfort level, some will argue that the at home trays are the best teeth whitening systems and others will say the same about the strips.  The only other important thing to remember is that you need to do this process gradually to help prevent teeth sensitivity and to purchase high quality gels and peroxides.
